Biography
Royal Robertson spent most of his life in Louisiana, with his wife and their eleven children. A trained sign painter, his paranoid schizophrenia triggers in him a prodigious creative fever. Ethereal ascents, portraits of divinities, futuristic architectures like “show houses" of a world to come, it is as if he had come down from his planet, loaded with his own tables of the law. Appearing in countless collections such as those of the Smithsonian Museum of American Art (United States) or the National Museum of Modern Art (Pompidou), his work was presented, in 2018-19, in the traveling exhibition Into The Unknown , produced by the Barbican (London) and curated by Patrick Gyger.
