Founded in 2017 in Compiègne by Darya Brient, Galerie de l'Est initially emerged as a platform dedicated to showcasing the contemporary art scene of Eastern Europe. Over time, the gallery has broadened its horizons, welcoming Western artists while staying committed to a strong representation of female artists and feminine art.
With a dynamic program, the gallery hosts approximately six exhibitions per year, some of which take place off-site, and is distinguished by carefully curated displays that invite full immersion in the artistic universe. More than just an exhibition space, Galerie de l'Est serves as a platform for exchange, dialogue, and reflection on major contemporary themes: sociocultural, political, and ecological issues, intergenerational relationships, memory, as well as explorations of materiality and creative processes.
In just seven years, the gallery has provided a platform for over 60 emerging and mid-career artists from 15 countries to express themselves and present their work. The gallery also offers residency solutions for artists without studios in France, facilitating their integration into the French and international art scenes.
Located in a city with a rich historical heritage, Galerie de l'Est stands out for its mission to promote contemporary art within this traditional context. The gallery supports its artists by showcasing their work at contemporary art fairs and facilitating their inclusion in institutional collections.
