Sylvie Lajoie

As a multidisciplinary visual artist, Sylvie Lajoie seeks to create bridges between artisanal techniques and contemporary art. His large textile murals and embroidered designs are the results of research that transformed his studio into a veritable experimental laboratory. The "drawing on wire" arises from his interest in family photos. His use of a triad of materials, namely photography, thread and paper, defines his current approach.

Acrylic painting naturally integrated into his practice. Lajoie works with several media to achieve his abstractions including acrylic paper, Terraskin paper and canvas. She seeks to highlight the fiber in her works, while creating visual harmony. In his artistic research, working with paper allows him to mix organic shapes and colors with personal meaning.
