Sebastian Villabona

Sebastian Villabona (Bogota, 1987) is a multidisciplinary urban artist who divides his life between Sweden and his country of origin, Colombia.

The constant and detailed observation of the environments that surround him leads him to reinterpret these spaces in a language all of his own.

Often inspired by brutalism and deconstructivism, his work suggests, through a juxtaposition as impulsive as it is organic, an analogy between the geometry of the elements he creates and urban architecture, between the exuberance of his native Colombia and a certain harshness of his adopted country.

A balanced chaos that reflects our societies.

His practice began as a teenager when he devoted himself to graffiti and the creation of murals in the streets of Bogota. It was later, during his academic studies (Bachelor Fine Arts & Graphic Design in Buenos Aires then Master Fine Arts and Design in Göteborg), that his interest in major urban planning trends, abstract art and illustration, is fully felt. At the same time, Swedish government standards, much stricter than those in Latin America, prevent him from painting frescoes outdoors as he used to do before. The need to find a workshop imposes itself on him and will mark a real turning point in his artistic production.

Sebastian Villabona's work has already been exhibited in the United States, Argentina, Colombia, Sweden, Spain, and France where he is represented in Paris by the Bandy Bandy gallery.
