Born in 1974, visual artist/photographer based in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. She studied graphic arts in Casablanca (Morocco) and worked as an art director in an advertising agency before starting her own photography.
She works mainly on conceptual portraits, mixed media and documentary photography. Much of her work focuses on Africa and what she learns from the myriad cultures that surround her. In her latest work, Choumali embroiders directly onto the images, completing the act of creating the photographic image with a slow, meditative gesture.
