Gwenaëlle Magadur

I was born in Brest in January 1964. After a few years in the West of France, in Paris, a few stays abroad, a few residences, I still live in Brest today.
After a science baccalaureate and a short stay at the Faculty of Science, I chose Fine Arts, Communications Department. I was absolutely not ready for the Art Department.
I became a graphic designer and then a computer graphics designer in a communications agency, a printing company, etc. The arrival of the computer brought me back to drawing and paper, due to the lack of raw materials.
I come from drawing, from the line. I worked on it through a wonderful book "The Artistic Anatomy of Man." I later came to color and painting. I also work with photography and volume. New technologies fascinate me. The leitmotif of my work is a search for writing, graphic first of all. It is often through the line of drawing that I approach a new subject. Drawing is then considered as a writing in its own right as a desire to affirm, to restore, to show. For me, it materializes a notion of choice, of voice, the basis of any artistic approach. This can take a thousand different forms, from the traditional exhibition to the installation project in public space.
My work is oriented with the desire to work with and in everyday life. This is a very important part that I learned to develop, particularly with the installation of "La Ligne Bleue" which
I talk about it on my website. This work has shaped me and continues to do so today.

My various experiences, from the communications department of Fine Arts, to the master's degree in cultural mediation, including work as a graphic designer, then as a computer graphic designer, have made me aware of...
connected to language through words and images. The arrival of "The Blue Line" completely shook up and transformed my view of space, writing in space, drawing,
body, movement. A very important theme in my work, the work on plants, the fluidity of their lines. I have explored it a lot in drawing, engraving and painting. A particular form symbolizes this research: the leaf fish. I consider the shapes of a leaf and a fish as identical. Drawing them with this perspective allows me to make a link between the earth and the sea, the solid and the liquid, the trees and the algae.
