Biography

Marie-Charlotte Houpeurt-Chauffeté,
French Watercolorist

Trained at the Martenot workshops for many years, Marie-Charlotte Houpeurt-Chauffeté completed her artistic career at the Moulins-sur-Allier art studio and evening classes at the Valenciennes Academy of Fine Arts, in drawing and sculpture. She also enriched her practice during workshops with professional watercolorists.

A registered artist with the Maison des Artistes, she shares her passion by leading classes and workshops in Seine-et-Marne, while exhibiting regularly in this region as well as in Charente-Maritime.

Her resolutely figurative approach to watercolor seeks to evoke dreams and mystery. She favors spontaneous gestures, light, and a deliberate simplification of the subject to retain only the essential, in an approach far removed from photographic reproduction. She likes to recall this phrase from Renoir: “This drawing took me five minutes, but it took me sixty years to get there," emphasizing the importance of work and experience.
