Working mainly with oil and acrylics, J. Kesin creates paintings of his perception of different subjects. These range from the autobiographical to literature, general concepts, politics and current affairs.
The subjects of his paintings are often deconstructed into 'components', which are then represented on the canvas by layers, interplaying and creating a game of shapes, lines, opacity and transparency. Analysis, emotion and spontaneity are combined in a process of constant conversation with the evolving painting.
His artistic influences include the ideas of simultaneity, cubism, and constructivism, as well as Gerhard Richter and Howard Hodgkin's associative abstraction.
Kesin was born in Hamburg, Germany where he lived until 1999. During the 1990's he also spent extended periods of time in Russia and Uzbekistan, following the break-up of the Soviet Union, which added to his experiences and inspirations.
He is now based in London and Valencia.
