Biography

Japanese artist Hiroshi Sugimoto lives and works between Tokyo and New York. He studied art at Saint Paul University, Tokyo before joining the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. He later settled down in New York by 1974. 

Hiroshi Sugimoto is interested in the representation of time, of our senses, and our conscience. Through his art, he questions the relationship between human beings and reality. His work has been presented in several public collections including New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art and MoMA, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and London's National Gallery and Tate Modern.

This multidisciplinary artist not only does photography but also makes sculptures, installations, and is interested in architecture. He creates works by successfully combining Asian and Western culture.
