Presentation

Noura Bakkar is a Lebanese feminist artist with a Masters degree in Plastic Arts from the Lebanese University.

Noura's work explores taboo topics focusing on queer bodies within conservatism. Having been born in a conservative region herself, she was able, during her studies, to challenge the status quo with her daring sculptures, illustrations, paintings, video art and installations.

“Reclaiming Aphrodite" is a sculpture installation that revolves around the re-representation of the “Woman" body through an inclusionary “female gaze" that consists of 28 coloured clay sculptures of similar sizes. These sculptures portray hybrids of deformed bodies due to the pressure that women are put under in the patriarchal system which is based on sexism, misogyny, internalised misogyny, homophobia, trans-phobia, etc.
