José Antonio Fondevila

José Antonio Fondevila (Fiestras-Silleda, Ponteveda, 1952). He was born in an environment not very conducive to the arts and has no family background in this field or social influences that would have led him down this path. He was orphaned at the age of 8 and was the oldest of 5 siblings.

Since his childhood, an inner need drove him to seek ways of self-realization. Ways that would facilitate the channeling of his goals: To question his own reality and self-knowledge; to be able to manifest himself through his own language without conditioning; to search for another reality outside of his world .....

In this search, he obtained a grant from the Ministry of Information and Tourism to take a distance learning course in oil painting. From this course, all his training is self-taught; but it is the starting point to enter gradually in the universe of the creation.

In the course of his journey, he changes his themes and styles, but without obeying any trend but his own dictates, reaching a stage where the conceptual replaces the real, seeking the line between the material and the ethereal.
