Biography

Artist Upachandra Tilakawardana started his career in 1975 under the guidance of Somabandu Vidyapathi. 

His artistic accomplishments earned him the post of Manager, Ruhunu Cultural Centre in 1999.With this new responsibility Tilakawardana organized many activities to promote art among the younger generation of the region, in addition to his efforts in conservation of ingenious arts of the Southern Province. 

In 2007, he held his first solo exhibition at the Thambapanni Gallery. He held his second art exhibition in 2009 at the Lionel Wendt Art Gallery. He is also a regular participant in many Art Festivals. His unique style of painting, attracted Art lovers and collectors from both Sri Lanka and all over the world.

In 2010, he received Kala Bhushana Award from the Government of Sri Lanka.
