David Wheeler was born in Notting Hill, London, in 1952. He studied design at Paddington College where he graduated to become a freelance graphic designer, working on various projects in London. Here he mastered his draughtsman skills. He always paints in oil. He lives and works in Cornwall.
“I am inspired by the moors and farmlands of Devon and Cornwall, the uplands of Tuscany and Provence. I strive to capture the spirit and mood of locations rather than a specific scene in a modern contemporary colourist style in oils. Influenced by the Impressionists and Scottish Colourist I am developing my style with vibrant colours, textures in oils to give each painting its own originality this is a great challenge for my future work. I will never tire of the landscape of Tuscany but I am excited by my new ideas trying to portray city and urban life”.
