Therese James

Theresse James is born in Wales.

She has been painting since 1993 and is completely self-taught. She claims to be from the Naive School, an art which can't be taught.

Wales is a major source of inspiration for her, not only through its landscape but also literature.

Theresse James has cultivated a naive and joyous style. Perspectives are camouflaged in the landscape and are nourished by action. The characters are sometimes full-face or in profile, they are either extremely small or extremely big. The artist portrays scenarios of life, moments of exchange between little men.

But under their childish cover, her paintings show much more than one thinks. In this naive cacophony, a ton of details are hidden. Strollers fly in the wind and push cars around, making it seem easy.

In a more abstract and expressionist style, Theresse James depicts landscapes filled with passion and energy. She paints according to her instinct, and the end result confirms this.

Theresse James was selected for the "Welsh artist of the year" and participated in exhibitions like Royal Welsh Show and The Eisteddfod National to represent the Countryside Counsel of Wales.
