Celebrity Photographers

As long as stars have captured the attention of the masses, there have been those who have strived to capture their image. The art in it lies in capturing the figure either at their most relatable or at their most untouchable, either way intended to be seen by many. But then there are celebrity photographers who spend a lot of time with those icons to retain private photo sessions which become part of an undiscovered canon of work. Celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz revealed not only a connection between photographer and subject but also an expression of emotion achieved through art to be put on display for viewers. In her work the framing is generally classical and the setting often theatrical with the postures of the bodies compared to Baroque compositions. Amongst Artsper’s own collections (and further cementing the artistry that lies in celebrity photography) is work by Kevin Westenberg and Bert Stern, fashion photographer and specialist of portraits of stars, who is world-renowned for The Last Sitting, a collection of 2,500 photographs taken for Vogue of Marilyn Monroe over a period of three days, six weeks before she died in 1962.
