Profession of faith.

Every artist has a duty of insolence, vis-à-vis society, power, his peers, art itself... He must question the bases of our civilization, of our time, of our surroundings, the criteria of beauty, the established values. He must also react to a finding of injustice, abandonment or laxity. Even if criticism is often easy, it must however animate the discourse of the artist to allow him to show that these values are not definitive and that they must always be questioned. My purpose: Revisit museums, appropriate the works of the great masters, dust them off, give them another breath, another spirit, a new life, contemporary, pop, certainly another meaning too. Interference in the work of the great masters, in the established order of masterpieces to bring another vision of it, perhaps less conventional, but to impose it as a new spirit, while keeping the primary qualities of the work, its composition, its design. It seems to me that it is important to allow so-called classic artists, many of whom are long gone, to live a new life in today's era. Every artist has a duty of insolence, vis-à-vis society, power, his peers, art... Putting mustaches on the Mona Lisa as Duchamp did is an act of insolence verging on blasphemy, but the Dadaists indulged in whatever fantasies they wanted, no offense to a certain conservative intelligentsia whom they shocked. Duchamp said about his Fountain, a simple urinal signed R. Mutt (one of his pseudonyms) which was refused at the Salon of the Society of Independent Artists in 1917: “The fact that Mr. Mutt modeled or no, the Fountain of his hands is of no importance. He CHOSEN her. He took a common item of life and made its utilitarian meaning disappear under a new title. From this point of view, he gave it a new meaning”. The artist must question the fundamental bases of our civilization, of our time, of our entourage, the criteria of beauty...
