Pec and his Knar, a love story
Pec is an artist from Lyon. Born in 1975, he is part of the second generation of graffiti artists who arrived in Lyon. You may not be able to put a face to his name, but if you are familiar with the Lyon landscape, you have already come across his KNAR, a generous and colourful bird that roams the walls, bridges and the Lyon ring road.
Pec's Knar has become a symbol: a sign of his passage in the street. In the Petit Bulletin, he modestly explains: "I start from the principle that you are sufficiently bludgeoned with all the ads, all the slogans, everything that you can come across without realising it and which ultimately spoils your daily visual life. I put a spot of colour, it intervenes on the person, it makes him smile, I did my job".
Pec explores the full potential of street art and aims to reach a maximum number of people through his urban occupation.
POP PEC, a nod to art history.
For this very local collaboration, VANGART and Pec are honouring the well-known Knar. This time embroidered, the corpulent bird is produced in 4 unique copies. Embroidered on lace, or on faded jeans, Pec continues his work of declension around his totem animal. Pec admits that he doesn't paint birds anymore, except if he is asked to. His Knar becomes a symbol, and its coloured reproduction can only make us think of Andy Warhol's famous work. Andy Warhol decided to paint the Marilyn Diptych a few weeks after Monroe's death. He found in her a fusion of two constant themes: death and the cult of celebrity. By copying the same image several times, he evokes her presence in the media. Like Andy Warhol, Pec invokes an icon. It is clear from his work that advertising and the bulimia of images are subjects that interest him. Moreover, the title of the work POP PEC seems to refer to the Pop Art movement, often tinged with repetitions, reproductions and bright colours.
A way of painting that is conducive to embroidery.
The collaboration between Pec and VANGART was obvious from a technical point of view. Pec is an artist who quickly assumed the flat colour as a distinctive sign: "I have always preferred characters... and I was in a group where everyone was doing lettering. Then the question arose of painting large and illegally: doing tiny things in the dark is complicated, and when your mates throw out huge things and you throw out tiny things that go unnoticed, you change your technique. I came to do big flat colours, thicker strokes, to completely change the shape of my characters. "

Can I negotiate the price of an artwork?
For some artworks, you can negotiate the price. If the price of the work is negotiable, you have a “Make an offer” button under the “Buy this work” one.
To submit your offer, you must make a payment of the desired amount. Your offer will then be forwarded to the gallery, which reserves the right to accept or reject it. If your offer is accepted, it means that your order is confirmed by the gallery and they will prepare the artwork for shipment. If your offer is rejected, you will be refunded the total amount paid automatically. The gallery can also propose a counter-offer for the acquisition of the artwork.

Where can I have my order delivered?
Artsper delivers worldwide!
However, please note that once your order reaches its destination, it may be subject to VAT or other customs fees. These charges are beyond our control and you will be responsible for paying them (this is indicated at the ‘checkout’ first step).
Select the delivery address of your choice. Please make sure that someone is present to receive your order.
If your billing address is different to your delivery address you can specify this at the checkout.
Return and cancellation
You can return the artwork without needing to provide a reason or pay a penalty fee up to 14 days after receiving your order.
In the case that the right of withdrawal is exercised in the aforementioned time frame, the price of the artwork(s) purchased and the shipping costs will be reimbursed by us as soon as the gallery has received the artwork and notified us.
Artsper will manage the return of the work and will bear the cost of returns (which will either be paid by you and refunded by Artsper or directly paid by Artsper).
The artwork must be returned in perfect condition and in its original packaging (or equivalent).
