Originally, sculptures were mainly made of stone and wood. As time went by, man appropriated metal which became his greatest ally. Steel, bronze, silver or iron... The combinations are infinite!
In addition to the freedom allowed by this material, the size or shape can also vary according to the feelings and techniques of the sculptor. And some of the greatest names in the history of art have expressed their talent through this medium. For example, Brancusi, whose pure and polished sculptures marked the beginning of modern abstraction. But also Germaine Richier, known for her work on the human figure and the link between man and nature in her metal sculptures. Not forgetting Alberto Giacometti, and his characteristically long sculptures, which have inspired many contemporary artists. Finally, Louise Bourgeois also let her talent be expressed through her monumental metal sculptures, notably the series "Maman" and her famous giant spiders.
For the metal sculpture fascinates the greatest artists of the contemporary scene, which has definitely freed itself from the ancient ideal. Polished to the extreme or with a rough and raw finish, the works borrow a more free and fluid vocabulary. Today, the organic universe of Kiki Smith, the voluptuous Nanas of Niki de Saint Phalle or Duchamp's urinal are all the rage among the public and art market experts. Explore our collection of contemporary metal sculptures and choose from works by Zed, Francesco Marino Di Teana or Haude Bernabé.
