WONDER WOMAN, THE ORIGINS OF A MEDIATISED SUPERHEROINE.
Icon of feminism, emblem of pop-culture, princess of the Amazons, Diana Prince alias Wonder Woman!
For more than 80 years now, this superheroine has imposed herself in our collective imagination as the female counterpart of Superman. Secret identity, super-power and omnipotence, Wonder Woman has many facets and she has not finished surprising you!
Created in 1941 by William Moulton Marston, Wonder Woman made her first appearance in the 8th issue of the magazine ALL STAR COMICS, the origin of the American publishing house DC Comics (Detective Comics).
At the time of her creation, the superheroine was driven by the feminist struggles of the time. In the midst of the Second World War, the Amazonian princess was above all a symbol of emancipation for women's rights until the beginning of the 1950s, which was marked by a return to pre-war standards.
Today Wonder Woman represents above all a model of independence for women. Since her creation, she has been carried from generation to generation as the standard-bearer of many values of peace, emancipation and social progress. A struggle that the superheroine and many others continue to wage even today, more than 80 years after her creation, with feminist struggles, the #Me TOO and LGBT struggles.
ABOUT THE EXHIBITION.
As powerful as Heracles, as strategic as Athena and ... let's say it! As beautiful as Aphrodite! Come and discover Wonder Woman at the centre of the next POP ART exhibition organised by CORPS ET AME GALLERY: "WONDER WOMAN IN ALL HER STATES... "
10 artists will be brought together to present their interpretation of this emblematic figure of American comics.
THE ARTISTS:
- DILLON BOY (James Dillon Wright): is an internationally recognized American artist. A versatile artist, he finds his inspiration in Street Art and American Pop Art of the 70s. His pro-ductions, mainly sprayed and stenciled, take up iconic figures of pop culture such as the iconic Walt Disney mouse or the countless superheroes from Marvel and DC Comics pub-lishing houses.
- DENIAL (Daniel Joseph Bombardier, D3N! @L or DENIAL): is a Canadian artist who prac-tices graffiti, multimedia art and design. A committed and satirical artist, art is for him a means of communicating and asserting his ideas. A commitment that is essential even in the choice of his nickname DENIAL which, according to him, evokes the state of denial that characteriz-es our contemporary consumer society.
- MR LIVE (Philippe Clairé): is a French artist, painter, sculptor, and plastic artist. He exercis-es his practice in a self-taught way on a wide variety of media. Initiated in the Pop Libre trend by the artist David Cintract, Mr. Live's work mainly focuses on the iconic figures of our imagi-nation and our childhood from comics, the world of comics and cinema.
- Z. VIDAL (Zacharie Vidal) is a French artist from Lège-Cap-Ferret. His works are carried out with an original technique which includes gold-plated pieces, toys or everyday objects. Inspired by popular culture, Z.VIDAL works are part of the neo pop art trend. - ELMAGO: is a French artist from the South of France. A versatile artist, he practices both abstraction and figurative art, assemblage, and collage. Influenced by popular culture, the artist draws on our imagination and our daily life to carry out his work.
- THIERRY BEAUDENON: is a French artist who started his career in advertising illustration and schoolbooks, he gradually turned away to devote himself fully to painting by drawing on the codes of Pop Art. Today Thierry Beaudenon realizes his creations on a completely differ-ent medium, road signs! Altered the least possible by the artist, traffic signs and traffic laws are associated with cult characters from our imagination and our culture.
- KEDAR ONE: is a French artist who began his career in 2007. Street Artist, KedarOne practices graffiti and has participated in several festivals such as Pertuis "Art festival" in Côte D’Azur or the street art and digital art festival "D1g1t Art" in Lourmarin.
- GREG LÉON GUILLEMIN (Alias Léon): is a French artist originally working in a communi-cation agency. His works are inspired by both vintage pin-ups of the 1930s and American Pop Art of the 1970s. Influenced by the iconic figures of our imagination, Leon shapes the characters of our childhood and gives them a second life. Science fiction, Cinema, Comics, Video Games, from Super Mario to Wonder Woman all the characters find themselves in a situation in the universe of Greg Léon Guillemin.
- SANDRA CHEVRIER: is a Canadian artist. Street Artist, she draws her inspiration from pop culture and more particularly American Comics. His latest series The Cage presents several portraits of women, their faces hidden by masks on which are represented several comic book bubbles revealing Wolverine, Batman, Superman or Wonder Woman. Princess Amazon appears in the monumental “The Beauty of Liberty and Equality” fresco celebrating 100 years of the 19th Amendment and women's suffrage in the United States. This fresco was produced in 2020 in Austin, Texas in collaboration with Street Artist SHEPARD FAIREY (OBEY).
-SOCRATE : is a French artist from the Paris region. Stemming from the Street-Art move-ment, her first works were initially carried out in urban space, she subsequently became in-terested in more traditional media such as canvas. His works refer to several universes such as haute couture or characters from popular culture and our childhood.
