Presentation

Toronto Based artist Kirk Sutherland invites us into his abstract art world altering from Abstract Expressionism to Post-Painterly Abstractions. These abstractions can be grouped into a few different series, where each one has an exceptional approach and unalike way of how Kirk sees abstract art styles and techniques. From straight vertical and horizontal lines ('Multiple Horizon' series, inspired by Post-Painterly Abstraction movement) to the wonders of colourful paint dots ('Field of Colour', 'Synesthesia Series', inspired by Monet and Lyrical Abstraction), Kirk is challenging himself to push forward as abstract art can have so many different ways to be created.

Kirk Sutherland is also a lecturer and educator. He holds a degree in Arts from the Ontario College of Arts and Design (studied under François Thepot, Graham Coughtry, Gordon Rayner, Paul Sloggett, Dan Solomon, and Robert Hedrick). Kirk Sutherland holds an Associate of the Ontario College of Arts Honours (AOCA Hons.) He showed his works in more than 30 group exhibitions and over 15 personal ones. His art pieces are in private and corporate collections throughout North America and Europe.
