The surreal power of his features has become his trademark. Laurent Zagarri uses his palette knife to bring portraits of women to life.
Women from old magazines, old photographs, that hit him right in the heart. “I don't know them and they don't know that I paint them.
If I paint anonymous faces, it's to let the viewer create their own story,” comments Laurent Zagarri. These faces are as if crossed out by knife strokes which thicken the line and make it even truer. The result is sensual and colorful female faces. His hybrid style, halfway between illustration and graphics, turns between abstraction and figurative.
