Fernand Herbo is a painter and lithographer from Montmartre established in Honfleur, born in Orchies in the North on March 18, 1905 and died in Équemauville on August 21, 1995. He was appointed painter of the French Navy in 1944.
Painter, watercolorist, he undoubtedly deserves to be recognized as one of those little masters of the 20th century.
In 1950, he exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants, to which he has always remained faithful, he presented a port which was very noticed. Painter of Montmartre, he settled in Honfleur where his wife held a bar-tabac, fishing articles until recently: the Bar des Artistes, now the Bistrot des Artistes!
The ceiling decorated by Fernand Herbo is still worth a visit - 14 Place Pierre Berthelot. He is a 20th century painter and industrial activity does not put him off: factories, locomotives ...
Nomadic life seduces him and he paints caravans and circuses. To see among the 23 works kept by the Eugène Boudin Museum: Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, 1942 - Les roulottes à Aubervilliers, 1970.
