JOSEBA SANCHEZ ZABALETA, born in 1970 in Cistierna (Spain), lives and works in Gaucin, province of Malaga.
1983 Despite his youth, he entered the Academy of Art and Decoration in San Sebastian.
1988 After five years, he graduated from the School of Applied Arts in Zaragoza.
The first stage of the work consists of ink drawings and watercolors in small formats. Northern light and real shapes are reflected in his work where he interprets the landscape that surrounds him. It will be his youth work.
Ten years go by.
Having accumulated a large quantity of work, he feels ready to exhibit. He goes to Madrid with this objective. From this trip will emerge a series of paintings in which the change is clearly perceived. He is trapped by the city and what it generates, thus tracing the structural lines of his future, more personal and reflective work.
He used to paint landscapes, but today he mainly paints objects, abandoned places and outskirts of cities.
Today, after having exhibited in Madrid with the young realists of that country, he is very clearly linked to the New Spanish Realism. His work has definitely opened up to the world and is part of important national and international private collections.
