The gallery presents a unique collection of drawings and engravings from the artist's family.
The exhibition consists of thirty-five engravings and twenty-eight drawings, including seventeen previously unpublished works from the estate of Claude Bonin-Pissarro. These seventeen drawings are being shown for the first time in our exhibition. Also on display are two pieces from the 1931 sale of the Bonin-Pissarro collection: The Cottage and The Young Peasant Woman. Some other drawings have been collected over time. They were subjected to the expert eye of Joachim Pissarro, who compiled the catalogue raisonné of his grandfather's drawings and issued a certificate of authenticity for each one.
The primary objective of the exhibition is to showcase Camille Pissarro's engraved and drawn work. We therefore hope to reconsider the corpus of posthumous engravings, long forgotten, which nevertheless constitute the most accomplished version of the artist's work, as he intended it. We place on the same level the posthumous engravings and the preparatory drawings, which very often bear the same monogram. Through both facets of his work, Camille Pissarro's line, whether in burin or pencil, is confronted with the viewer's gaze.
