Traces of the 20th Century
A trace is a series of imprints, marks, left by the passage of a person or an object.
Traces is an ongoing project, carried out in Poland, centered around major historical events of the 20th century. "The Wolf's Lair" revisits a sometimes little-known site from the Second World War, and "Gdansk" is a wandering through this port that saw the birth of Solidarity a few years before the end of the Cold War.
From destroyed bunkers where nature is reclaiming its rights to the old port of Gdansk, which is gradually being redeveloped, these photographs, far from reportage, attempt to capture the spirit of a place haunted by a recent and sometimes already distant history.
Traces is also the imprint left on me by these events, recounted by the previous generation or followed through the news.
