Biography
Julie Weekes is a mixed-race painter who combines Aboriginal civilisation with Western culture, depicting the sand dunes and gorges of her native Western Australia.
Julie treats these landscapes using very bright colours reminiscent of psychedelic painting. The result is quite extraordinary "rainbow" effects that give a very personal version of the "utopian" fertility of Aboriginal lands such as their former owners dispossessed by the whites who often evoke it.
