Thomas Baenke, born in Liège, Belgium in 1982, grew up in the Paris region and it is in this rural and urban aesthetic that he observes the "décor".
Back in Belgium in 2000, he studied illustration at the Institut St Luc in Tournai, then at the ERG (Ecole de Recherche Graphique) in Brussels. He deepens his work in illustration and graphic design and approaches new disciplines such as screen printing and photography. Thomas Baenke is passionate about theory, semiology and cultural current events taught by professors he recognizes as interesting and relevant in their field.
Thomas' work corresponds to the Handstyle Post-Graffiti aesthetic, clearly stemming from Street-Art. Thomas collects both the aesthetics and the materials necessary for his creations, recovered and realized in a legal way or not.
Thomas Baenke acts in conscience and with consideration for the universe in which he is involved, Graffiti being an extremely codified artistic field built around a heritage and values that imply respect. It is in this richness of proposals, which Thomas associates with a form of esotericism, that he explores the indexical paradigm of the track and the trace and extracts his work from it.
Thomas Wolfgang Baenke lives and works in Brussels.
