Biography

In order to exist, a canvas needs to be looked at and listened to. Then it can start to speak.

Daughter of Sétois watercolourist Édouard Couderc (1891-1964), Christiane Barlow-Couderc was born in Lyon in 1939. She took drawing classes at the Lyon School of Art and trained with a number of local painters, including Champin de Lyon and his famous parrot.

She has held a number of solo exhibitions, including 'L'âme à fleur de peau' at the Agora Tête d'Or (Lyon 6th arrondissement), and 'Portraits, Paysages et Natures Mortes' at the Lyon 5th arrondissement town hall.

Her work includes nudes, still lifes, portraits and landscapes, and she particularly enjoys painting bodies and their curves, and sculpting their volumes by playing with colour. Her palette is warm and her words lively. An amateur painter, she paints for pleasure and out of inner necessity.

You can see a sample of her work on her website: www.christiane-barlow.com.

The works presented here express her love of animals and life.
