Jean-Pierre Walter

France • 1967

In my eyes, objects have a real personality that I try to reveal by playing with light.

Biography

From the day I discovered "La nature morte à l'échiquier" by Lubin Baugin in my CM2 history book, I have always carried within me the wish to one day become a painter.

It was only at the age of 38 that I was finally able to pick up a paintbrush and actually embark on this path. Completely self-taught, without a mentor and just with a few books (Cennino Cennini and Xavier de Langlais), I then launched myself with professional status.

Painting was never a problem, as if it had been dormant for a long time, while selling was more complicated which made me work for a long time with Ebay. All genres were approached but the revelation came when I made my first still lifes. Everything seemed obvious and natural to me to the point that modestly, like a Chardin in his time, I decided to paint only that, to devote myself to it totally to try to achieve total mastery of my craft.

Technically, I was then pushing my work towards the Dutch masters but especially the Flemish primitives with the work of glazing (thin layers of transparent paint) on a grisaille previously prepared with a view to an elaborate final result, with dense and deep colors.

Since then, always with the same interest and passion, I also develop my supports, my colors and my tools in order to deepen the quality of my work. The incessant reading of art books also contributes to broadening my knowledge, both in Symbolism and in the History of Art.

Since 2005, 2480 paintings have been painted and are now distributed in 39 countries while my rating continues modestly, but surely, to progress thanks to the loyalty of connoisseurs from all over the world, for which I thank them warmly.
