Biography

Born in the south of France, Maguy Banq moved to Mexico for her studies where she graduated from art school to become a full time sculptor. Along with the artist José de Santiago, she set up a workshop in San Luis Potosi where together they collaborated on several monumental public sculptures present in Mexico and Chilpancingo.

For her own work, Maguy Banq uses the ancient technique of “cire perdue" to create bronze sculptures in which the presence of the circle often dominates. The use of this particular refrain is linked to her appreciation of Greek mythology. These bronzes polished to varying hues of brown, grey and black are an homage to mankind, to the reflections and questions that challenge us every day.
