Biography
Marcoville was born in Boulogne-Billancourt in 1939 and started his artistic career working as a draftsman. Then he worked as a stage designer, mainly for the Buttes-Chaumont studios. In the early '70s he decided to dedicate himself completely to his artistic practice.
At first he worked with wood, and then in the 1980s he started to work with glass. He favors reclaimed, cheap materials that he assembles and mixes together using complex techniques, some invented by himself.
Marcoville has his own technique for working the glass: he breaks, scratches, sands, colors, assembles and glues the pieces of glass, creating monumental trees, shoals of fish (all of them handmade), enigmatic geishas, tribes, various characters in vivid colors...
