Biography
Antoine Henry is a French painter, born in 1961 in Paris. After a dozen of years working in the high fashion realm, notably as a stylist, he exiled himself in a small town of Auvergne, far away from Paris' agitation, to dedicate himself to painting.
Antoine Henry retained from his career as a stylist a sense of synthesis, a form of minimalism which confer him a kinship with the French-Chinese painter Sanyu (Chang Yu, ??).
His work is particularly appreciated in Japan, where he exhibits his paintings on a regular basis since 1997.
Antoine Henry's pictural technique is almost more comparable to engraving than traditional painting : color by color, the artist applies on the canvas a uniform layer of oil painting, then "engraves" his drawing, before applying the next layer.
It results in often quadrichrome, if not tri- or bichrome paintings, from which emanates great poetry.
