Biography
Self-taught photographer, Marc Dantan is a living artist working in Montpellier in the south of France.
Marc Dantan decides to devote himself fully to photography in 1998. Passionate since his adolescence, he understands that a total investment is necessary to progress. Through books, he discovers Edward Weston, Irving Pen and American colorists like Eggleston and Sternfeld who become his models.
He began working for the press and then produced books for Hoebeke editions. After the Deyrolle fire in late 2008, he completed his first major series, The Immortals. It was also during this period that he began to photograph Palavas and confronts landscape and color.
In 2018, he traveled to France to photograph in black & white the victims of the Mediator. The work of Marc Dantan is therefore divided between aesthetic requirement and ethical commitment. Themes showing "the back of the scenery" or a form of absence distil a certain poetic nostalgia and remind us of our fragile condition
