Biography
French artist born in 1951, Georges Autard is a former mathematics teacher; today he teaches at the Beaux-Arts School in Marseilles.
He has kept an approach that is both mathematical and metaphysical. His work questions painting, but also time, death, the lack of fulfillment; all these issues are translated under the most diverse aspects, inspired from both trivial and high brow sources.
Bikes, clocks, blackboards, mathematical concepts and other images borrowed from the Tibetan way of thinking, readings from Michel Serres… "I hope not to lose my wrath because for me, it is connected to innocence". His vitality is full of anger, excessive and fierce. In his work, accurate painting combines with poorly painted works, the abstract with the figurative, and the narrative with the laconic elements. Multiplicity and contrast are key words for this artist with a nomadic temperament.
Georges Autard has built a rich body of work throughout the years; his career is a crossover of styles, approaches and techniques that seem irreconcilable, but it has reached today a logic and a consistency quite easy to recognize.
