Kévin Couliau

Nurtured from an early age by his passion for basketball, Kévin Couliau has been exploring and documenting playgrounds around the world for over 20 years, revealing the social impact of the sport on individuals and their communities. Beyond the smooth and commercial image of basketball, and beyond the grace of bodies in motion, his photographic practice is distinguished by its authentic and social dimension, often in search of stories of emancipation.

His work also questions the imprint of this sport on the urban landscape: the relationship with matter and colour, the court as a structuring and marking element of a social ecosystem, the territory of some, the playground of others... The omnipresence of urbanism and architecture in his photographs gives his compositions a unique structure and framework.
