Biography
With her gestural paintings, Jacqueline Dey captures the illusion of structured impasto surfaces by layering oil paints. She refers to the vocabulary of "abstract expressionism" and minimalism. The often contrasting color palettes within a picture convey the impression of space and depth. If the compositions seem chaotic or irregular at first, on careful examination they turn out to be orderly and methodical grid systems. With their unique spatula and raster technique, the soft, swirling organic shapes interrupt, counteract and complement the linear patterns. With this kind of juxtaposition, Jacqueline Dey develops a dynamic, lively visual language.
ABOUT ME
"I'm in the middle of my life at 40 years of age and have chosen Berlin as my adopted home. Trying out new things, being inspired and enriched. This is a fulfilled life for me. And that's how I found my way to art as an autodidact and am remained true to that, because ...
Works of art can be magical.
When I look at a work of art, it sometimes happens that it touches me a lot. An attraction arises that at the same time triggers so many emotions in me that I don't otherwise feel in normal life. A kind of emotional explosion.
When I looked at my first picture in the finished state in 2019, my pulse trembled and my heart was pounding loudly. I was so overwhelmed, full of happiness, full of turmoil, full of longing, full of melancholy and full of contentment! If a work of art achieves that with me, then everything else becomes unimportant and only enchants this moment.
The most fascinating thing about abstraction is that new images can develop when looking at the image and everyone can find their own story in it. Nothing is prescribed, everything is freely interpretable. So the art is really in the interests of the beholder. "
