Biography
Ron Arad, born in 1951 in Tel Aviv, is a British designer of Israeli origin. His training began at the Jerusalem Academy of Art then continued at the Architectural Association School in London from 1974 to 1979. He discovered his passion for design in Italy He was also professor of design at the Hochschule Vienna from 1994 to 1997.

His works demonstrate the artist's taste for curves which define him more as a sculptor than a designer. What shows this more is the fact that the function of his creations is not a first-order criterion in the production process. Notable creations of the artist are, among others, the Rover armchairs (1981), Well-Tempered Chair (1986 ), as well as the famous shelf entitled Bookworm (1993) or the Tom Vac chair created in 1997.
Ron Arad partners with many recognized houses such as Kartell, Vitra, Moroso and Driade. He takes part in numerous architectural projects such as the Showrrom Maserati Headquarters in Italy, the Tel Aviv Opera Foyer, he designs the Bauhaus Museum in Tel Aviv in 2008 and the Holon Design Museum inaugurated in 2010 dedicated to design. In 2005, the artist even designed the famous crystal candlesticks for Swarovski.
His surprising work shows the artist's freedom and his desire to overcome the boundaries between disciplines such as design, visual arts or architecture. Ron Arad tends to define himself as “No discipline”. His work has been widely publicized in newspapers and books around the world.
Ron Arad has been exhibited in major museums and galleries around the world such as the Center Georges Pompidou in Paris, the MoMA in New York, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and the Vitra Design Museum in Germany.
