Teresa Margolles was born in 1963 in Culiacán, in the state of Sinaloa, in northwestern Mexico. She studied arts and communications, as well as forensic medicine. In the early 1990s, she participated in the founding of the SEMEFO collective at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, before devoting herself to an individual practice. In 2009, she represented Mexico at the 53rd Venice Biennale and also participated in many other biennials and international exhibitions. His works have been the subject of numerous monographic exhibitions in Mexico and across Europe. She has been the recipient of numerous awards including, in 2012, that of the Artes Mundi organization in Cardiff, the most prestigious award in Britain awarded to an artist whose work deals with 'social reality, lived experience and the human condition ”.
