Jethro King Oluwatosin

Nigeria • 1998

Every stroke I paint carries the pulse of my steps, the echo of my body surrendering to music only I can hear. My work is the reflection of that rhythm, bold, unfiltered, alive.

Biography

Jethro King Oluwatosin is a multidisciplinary artist, delving deep into the spiritual essence of dance, utilizing the human body as his expressive canvas, and passionately revitalizing the lost  African heritage.

Originating from Ogbomosho, nestled in the heart of Oyo State, Nigeria, Jethro's journey led him to pursue Art and Industrial Design at Lagos State Polytechnic, now Lagos State University of Science and Technology.

His artistic repertoire primarily comprises paintings adorned with intricate lines and symbols, a practice he dubs "The African Mantra." Jethro's ingenuity lies in his ability to explore the therapeutic aspects of hobbies and vulnerability, as evidenced by his journey where dance becomes a powerful antidote against negativity, a beacon of hope, and a means of purging toxic emotions. He portrays body movements, a fluidity that is inspired by his profound ability to his and others' feelings through body painting.

His artistic expression knows no bounds, finding resonance on various surfaces, particularly the human form, walls, and canvas, where he breathes life into his narratives.

Artiste Statement

My art is movement, a rhythm etched onto bodies and canvases alike. Dance is my prayer, my release, my laughter in the face of the unknown. It is where my emotions find language, where my spirit speaks without words.

Every stroke I paint carries the pulse of my steps, the echo of my body surrendering to music only I can hear. My work is the reflection of that rhythm, bold, unfiltered, alive. Through it, I heal. Through it, I exist.
