Biography
Since the late ‘90s, Anna Malagrida, acclaimed Spanish contemporary artist, has developed
video and photography work with impressive consistency. The window, the endless subject
for many of her series, represents the passage from an intimate universe to the exterior world.
It depicts frontiers in the literal sense (video Fronteras, 2009) figuratively suggesting absence
and presence, the visible and the invisible, reality and its interpretation. Anna Malagrida
tackles with great poetic delicacy controversial subjects such as war, politics, and women in
the Middle East, while subtlety working with direction and playing with light and chiaroscuro,
confusing the act of painting as an artist who transcends the support of photography and
video in an art called “classic.”
Born in 1970 in Barcelona, Spain, she now lives and works in Paris.
