Biography

Michael Kerzner was born in Ukraine in 1964. His father, Wolf Kerzner, was a renowned painter. He graduated from the Ukrainian State School of Fine Arts in 1982 and was admitted to the Kyiv Higher Academy of Fine Arts the same year, where he graduated with honors. In 1986, he joined a group of dissident artists who exhibited their works throughout Europe.

Kerzner's artistic journey is marked by the contrast between the dark tones he once used in Russia and the radiant light of Israel. The intense local light, often overwhelming for newcomers from Eastern Europe, plays a central role in his work. It blends harmoniously with his delicate and expressive brushstrokes, influencing both the composition and emotional depth of his paintings. This light does more than illuminate: it sets the tone, dictates the color balance, and defines the ultimate message of his art. While it gives his work an optimistic atmosphere, it also conveys subtle nuances of deeper emotions.
