Biography
Raymond Pettibon is an American artist, born in Arizona in 1957, famous for his graphic, illustrative style. After studying at UCLA, he rose to prominence in California in the early 80s, particularly on the SoCal punk rock scene where he designed albums and posters.
Pettibon's work has become renowned for its poignant themes and relevant social commentary, referencing American culture across politics, social movements, sports, music, sexuality and more. His pieces appear cartoon-like, his earlier works mainly in black-and-white adopting a newsprint style, whilst his newer pieces are more collage. He continues to work and live in New York City.
