Biography
Brown creates energetic portraits that defy traditional pictorial
representation. She works from the ground up, layering marker and acrylic
strokes until she carves out a colorful portrait.
She
graduated with an A.A. in Graphic Design from Mount San Antonio, B.S. in Public
Relations from Cal Poly Pomona, and M.B.A. in Marketing from CSU Dominguez
Hills. Her work is a fusion of Pop art and Expressionism, constructing patchwork
portraits from Tupac and Basquiat to Woody and the Simpsons.
visual rhetoric of the average Joe to the person everyone should know. In my representation
of people of found throughout the world, I reveal the undertones of human flesh
and the stories that emit from within. Beyond simply just drawing portraits, I
want my artwork to speak and fight for equality in the art world.
I
am more than just a woman. I am a black woman. I am part of a race that as fine
artists remain unappreciated in contemporary discourse. When you walk into any
major art museum, how many works feature or are created by a black artist? Our
voices, ideas, and stories remain almost silenced in the fine art world. I want
to be a part of a new level of discussion. I want my portraits to tell unknown stories.
I want the people of my culture to be represented."
