Between hidden meaning and false evidence, his paintings question us with finesse.
Biography
Charly Medina is a painter born in Gran Canaria, Spain, in 2001.
Before painting on canvas, Charly Medina expressed his creativity through a clothing brand. He began by drawing and printing his creations on T-shirts.
Aware of the artistic nature of his work, he decided to confront his creations with canvas and devoted himself fully to painting. At the same time, he left his native Spain to settle in Paris, where his works already attracted numerous collectors.
Charly Medina explores social, ideological, and philosophical themes in his paintings. Beyond creating contemplative images, he seeks to make the viewer reflect and question the messages conveyed by his paintings. He often addresses the absurdity and contradictions of life and the world with disconcerting humor and frankness. Through his works, he creates a direct and intimate connection with the viewer.
The artist's perfect mastery of drawing makes the narrative of his works clear and readable, a narrative that he always places in the foreground. In the background, he deploys abstract and repetitive forms, which serve to construct the setting of his pictorial stories. These forms sometimes conceal signs that allow us to decipher the enigma of the message, or, conversely, confuse the issue by having no apparent connection with the scene represented. Through this play between meaning and nonsense, Charly Medina suggests the existence of a parallel reality, which we ignore or do not know how to see.
The stories told by Charly Medina's works, as well as their unique and poetic aesthetic, have already won over numerous collectors. The artist first became known in Montmartre, an emblematic district of the Parisian art scene. His paintings have met with great success, attracting the attention of several galleries in the capital.
