Christophe Charbonnel
Mont de Marsan From February 3, 2018 to May 20, 2018
Presentation
Artist invited in 2016 to the tenth edition of the Mont de Marsan Sculptures triennial, Christophe Charbonnel had impressed the public as much by the monumentality and the expressiveness of these works as by his availability to the public. Initiated by the sculptor Philippe Seené at the Duperré school in the 1990s, Christophe Charbonnel places himself in the tradition of figurative sculptors of the 20th century. Finding his inspiration as much in the figures of classical antiquity as in comics or the 7th art, he develops a strong work. A modeler like the sculptors from Mons Charles Despiau and Robert Wlérick, the artist draws on his memories to create, without a model, these great figures among which warriors and riders constitute a very present theme. This exhibition, the result of a joint approach by the artist and the Despiau-Wlérick museum, showcases the artist's work in an intimate setting. It unveils about twenty works, sometimes spectacular, mixing human figures and animal figures, groups and portraits. So many testimonies of the production of this self-taught and passionate artist, witness to the vigor and renewal of creation in the field of figuration in sculpture.
