“Did you ever eat fresh tomatoes?” The series of works created by Sergio Verastegui, brought together in the How project, is organized from images and elements that reflect a state of crisis and emergency. Falling, in a reality that we have now deprived of all humanity, fascinated by the limitless possibilities of production and reproduction, we wander in search of shelter or emergency exits. In How, Verastegui has constructed an atmosphere of eerie strangeness, the exhibition tending to reveal a future that is even more volatile and catastrophic than the present. We seem to be locked in a cabin of a falling plane; we are like Icarus losing his wings after his ecstatic flight; we are wandering in the immediate vicinity of a disaster that has just occurred. Using elements from a post-industrial consumer society and a decaying nature, the work in How derives from an interpretation linked to phenomenology and to a certain “listening” to materials.
