"The room adorned with his paintings looks much bigger, happier and more beautiful."

This review by Nobel candidate Ismail Kadare perfectly describes Rakip Shabani's magic brush.

He was born in Tepelena, from where most of his works are inspired, and later he moved to the city of Vlora where he fell in love with the sea. His love for nature made him walk across the country and sew all the beauty of Albania into his canvas. This gave him the scent of searching not only for the places, but also for the wonderful spiritual world of the people he met.

The details in his works are unique and you can easily be enchanted by the knowledge and appreciation of history, ethnography and philosophy. His paintings are a mixture of impressionism and expressionism within realism, which makes him once again unique in his style.

Shabani graduated from high school in 1964 and graduated from the Academy of Arts in 1974. He was distinguished for his watercolour works, which made him the only Albanian artist in the World Encyclopedia for this technique. He has exhibited his work all over the world, opening more than 50 exhibitions internationally.

He won his first national prize in 1974 as soon as he finished his studies and since then has been acclaimed by awards and critics, including the presidents of Romania and Italy at the time.

You can find more than 24 of his works exhibited at the National Gallery of Albania and 21 at the Vlora City Gallery.
