Presentation

René was born in Havana, Cuba in 1960 and has lived in Mexico since 1995. He studied architecture and graphic design and in 1985 began his studies in sculpture and painting at the School of Fine Arts of San Alejandro in Havana, Cuba. In 1985 he held his first solo exhibition and from 1985 to 2004 he made 37 exhibitions, both individual and collective, between Cuba, the United States, Mexico and Costa Rica.

From 1985 to 1995 his work was cataloged as landscape art. After 1995 he began experimenting with surrealism and "surrealist-tropical". The main theme of his work is tropical landscapes that include elements such as drifting eggs, fruits with ladders or trees, umbrellas that hang from clouds, forks that become palm trees, jungles that float in the clouds, etc. With these themes René Martín tries to promote the conservation of the landscape with a great sense of humor, using metaphor and symbolism. The technique of René Martín's paintings is oil or acrylic on canvas. It uses cheerful, tropical colors that, together with the themes, make the viewer interact with the work, giving it its own interpretation.
