Imiyari (Yilpi) Adamson

Biography

Imiyari (Yilpi) Adamson is an Australian Aboriginal artist of the Pitjantjatjara people, born in 1954 and living in the desert community of Pukatja in South Australia. She is a member of the historic Ernabella Aboriginal Artists Cooperative in Pukatja, which she has attended since she was a child. She has worked in many media over the years and is an accomplished batik artist, tjanpi (native grass) weaver, mukata (hat) maker, and acclaimed painter. She is the mother of aspiring artists Priscilla and Sandra Adamson, and the aunt of emerging artist Tjulyata Kulyuru.

Imiyari is a senior artist and a highly respected community leader. She served on the Ernabella Arts Artist Cooperative Board of Directors in 2022, 2023, and 2024.

Imiyari Adamson's works are held in major public collections in Australia and overseas, such as the National Museum of Australia (Canberra), the National Gallery of Australia (Canberra), the National Gallery of Victoria (Melbourne), the Art Gallery of South Australia (Adelaide) and the National Museum of Scotland (Scotland, UK).
