Presentation

Jean Poulain is a Belgian artist, born in 1884 in Katanga (former Belgian Congo) and died in 1967 in Belgium.

After having left his family in 1904 to explore the Belgian Congo, he finally left to discover the entire African continent and 1920 onwards, developed a genuine interest for wildlife painting and drawing.

During his many travels in the African continent, he met several secret tribes and clans and didn't wish to disclose their location, in order to protect them. His drawings gradually became a success, depending on the drawings, sketches and photographs which relate his work.

Since 2002, his drawings have finally emerged and today Jean Poulain is considered as a legendary wildlife draftsman.
